Before I purchased my automobile someone suggested to me to that I check online for the crash test ratings of some vehicles so I did. I have to say the information was eye opening. What I found was some differences between the two (IIHS and NHTSA) but not much. As a result of my checking I found the prefect vehicle and was surprised to find that my insurance cost was a little cheaper because of the vehicle I had chosen. What it all comes down to is if your vehicle is installed with different safety features whether you install them later or they come from the manufacturer it can reduce your insurance cost by about 15%.

It might not sound like a lot of savings, but over the cost of ownership it will keep money in your pocket. The IIHS and NHTSA provided me with great helpful information and now I’ll pass my suggestion on to you, by all means do your homework. Go online to their sites I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised from the information about the different vehicles listed and the many safety features some of the vehicles have and don’t have, which in my opinion will help you choose the right vehicle to purchase and thereby getting yourself a better insurance quote for the coverages you’ll need. I would also state that the differences between them is not much but would suggests that you use IIHS’s ratings because after all they are the auto Insurance rating association even though there is no direct connection to the auto insurance industry meaning they are not lining their pockets or are being influenced by insurance companys’.

Their suggestions or should I say findings help the insurance companies set their rates as well as other factors the insurance company will charge you for having auto insurance with them. In the end, what IIHS and NHTSA are doing to protect you by offering their rating reviews will help in the long run and possibly cut your cost to insure your automobile. So if you are looking to purchase a automobile anytime soon, do yourself a favor and check out their sites.

Accidents occur everyday! The same ground that you walk on, miles away, is the same ground where a vehicle becomes involved in an accident. This is the result of the negligence of one, sometimes multiple, drivers. Something required when driving is to have proper car insurance. Your car insurance company is required to cover damages that may occur in accidents, usually you would pay a deductible and your car insurance company takes care of the rest.

When a vehicle is in an accident, no matter how big or small the damage, your insurance company decides whether or not your vehicle is repairable or will be claimed as totaled. Sometimes because of a vehicles age a vehicle can be claimed as totaled with minimal damage and these are the vehicles that can become salvaged. In-turn it depends on the vehicles worth and how much your insurance company has to pay to repair your vehicle. Typically, new vehicles are rarely claimed as totaled unless the vehicle is beyond repair. This is because in most cases your pay out would cost less then it would be to restore your damaged vehicle.

After a vehicle is claimed as totaled the vehicle evaluated and decision is made whether or not to salvage the vehicle or bring it to a “junkyard,” where the vehicle is either crushed and recycled or broken down and used for parts for the company to sell. Now vehicles can become salvaged vehicles; vehicles that have been involved in an accident that can be repaired, however, your insurance company would rather pay your vehicle off then fix the vehicle. In which case the vehicle can be sold from your insurance company as-is for another person to purchase and repair out of pocket or sold at auctions for as much as the insurance company can procure.

Salvaged vehicles are usually vehicles that are affordable for smaller car dealerships to repair and resell or in some instances for individuals to restore and use as their means of transportation. Overall, your auto insurance company is going to do what is best for both parties financially to either salvage, repair and return, or claim your vehicle as totaled in the event of an accident. Either way wear your seat belt every time you get into a vehicle and be sure to always drive safe.

There are certain things in life we take for granted, driving is one of them. But along with owning a car and putting the pedal to the metal, there are huge responsibilities involved in owning a vehicle. You have to register your vehicle and you have to have a driver’s license. But where the big money comes into play is the cost of auto insurance. Here are several ways that you, the driver, can make sure you have the necessary insurance and at the best possible rate.

First Way:
If there is more than one vehicle in your family, make sure they are all insured through the same company. That will entitle you to a multi-vehicle discount. The more cars on the same policy equals lower the rates for all the vehicles. It makes it easier on the family also if everyone uses the same insurance company.

Second Way:
To get even more of a multi-family discount and cheap car insurance rates is to use that same company for any and all types of insurance they sell. That includes life insurance, home owner’s insurance or renter’s insurance.

Third Way:
Don’t get into an accident! It’s that simple. Be a safe driver, maintain your vehicle and don’t break the law. Accidents can raise your rates considerably.

Fourth Way:
If you are a senior citizen there is an easy way to save some dollars, and all seniors love to safe! Take one of the safe driving courses that are offered. Once you complete the course, which is basically just an hour or two, you will receive a discount on your car insurance. It is worth the time to do this.

Fifth Way:
If your vehicle is equipped with anti-theft devices, alarms, etc, then those features can save you some money on auto insurance.

Sixth Way:
Review how many miles a month you drive. Insurance is partially based on how long you are on the road. If you used to drive 100 miles a day to work before you retired, you probably are driving much less today. Check with your insurance agent and save more money.

A as general rule you need to shop around, compare prices, service and value in order to get the most for your money. It is your money and you need to make sure you get what you need at a great price, especially when it comes to auto insurance.

One of the expenses that many of us try to lower is our auto insurance. The biggest problem is having no idea on the steps to take. If the truth was known, there are some real simple tips you can use to lower the cost of your auto insurance. Implementing them is simple and almost anyone can do it no matter the age. Let us look at some of these simple tips to lower your auto insurance rates.

For most people they do not realize the vehicle they choose has a direct bearing on how much they pay. Sports cars and SUV’s will usually cost you more to insure than family vehicles such as station wagons or mini-vans. The main reason for this is insurance companies feel family oriented drivers are more cautious and better drivers. For this, they usually will get a much lower rate than others will.

Ask about discounts you may qualify for from your insurer. Many people tend to overlook this area when they buy auto insurance. Some discounts you may qualify for include low-risk occupations, professional organizations, senior citizen, safety, and security discounts are just a few of the ones that maybe available to you. Ask your insurance agent about them. Another thing to remember is revisit this every six months as insurance companies are adding new ones all the time. If you do not qualify now you may in the future so keep that in mind.

Maybe the simplest tip is the easy and that is protecting your driving record. By avoiding tickets and keeping your driving record clean, you will save money on auto insurance. One ticket can increase your rates so be a responsible driver and it will help save you money on your auto insurance rates.

Assuming more liability on your part can also lower your auto insurance premiums. One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is my choosing a higher deductible. By increasing your deductible, you assume more risk and the insurance company has less of a risk when they insure you. In turn, you will get lower rates for your auto insurance. One word of caution here and that is do not do this unless you can afford to assume the added risk. By following these simple tips, you can lower your auto insurance rates as well.
